Off the Boat - Finally

Saturday, it took us a few hours to get off the boat in Venice and by then we all just wanted to head home.  Unfortunately, there were no flights out Saturday afternoon so we had to fly out Sunday.  We dropped our bags off at our hotel and ended up having a really fun day in spite of our lack of enthusiasm.  We took a water taxi to the island of Murano and watched them blow glass.  That was fascinating.  We had lunch in Murano and then took a boat back to Venice and walked around for a few hours.  It was crowded and all I kept thinking was how miserable it would be if it was hot and humid in addition to the crowds.  Lucky for us the weather was great.  That evening we took a gondola ride and that was really fun.  We ate at a great Italian Restaurant and then went back to our room.   Our room was quite warm when we got in so I opened our windows.  Big, big mistake.  By 2:00am we were all awake with mosquitoes all over our room and bites all over us.  We spent the next four hours trying to kill the mosquitoes and itching.  It was an awful night and by the next day we were all spent.  We spent a few more hours Sunday wandering the streets, then took the boat to the airport, then a plane to Basel, then a train to Bern, then a tram to our flat, then walked home dragging our suitcases, up the stairs, and were in bed by 10:30.
I need a vacation!

One last gelato to end the trip.

  1. Aunt Dru- This all looks so fun! I am so jealous of your adventures, I would love to live in Europe. But guess what?! I got a new job, so I get to stay with you all until July 4th! So much better than the original plan of flying out of Barcelona and not even seeing you guys. I can't wait!
